in the grand scheme of life

I think a person can, in the end, overcome the booing and frowning of complete strangers, or even distant acquaintances. After all, if you’re that frail, you might as well curl up into a fetal ball and hide under a carpet, because everyone is not going to agree with you all the time or be of the opinion that what you’re doing is a good idea. It’s the hedging and hesitation of those closest to you, or the one person who you’ve counted on to say “I believe in you,” that is the most damaging. I often wonder how many people would have otherwise succeeded if that person they depended on had said go, I support you, I know you are smart enough, creative enough, resourceful enough, dedicated enough. I know that what I say matters to you, and that everyone else can take a hike. I wonder this all the time, and I wonder if I’d even be sitting here right now, contemplating this. Maybe I should revise my Christmas list.
